Dr. Sophie Benn is an assistant professor of musicology at Butler University, where she teaches courses on music history in the Jordan College of the Arts. Her research focuses on dance music and historical performance practices in France and the United States, and she is also active as a cellist and baroque cellist throughout the Midwest. Dr. Benn holds degrees in cello performance, pedagogy, and musicology from Rice University, the Cleveland Institute of Music, and Case Western Reserve University.
Dr. C. Matthew Balensuela is the James B. Stewart Professor of Music History at DePauw University. His research interests include the history of music theory, music history pedagogy, and American popular music of the early 20th century. His publications include Music Theory from Boethius to Zarlnio: A Bibliography and Guide, co-authored with David Russell Williams, and articles in Grove Music Online, Acta musicologica, Fontis arts muiscae, Popular Music and Society, The Journal of Jazz Studies, and The Routledge Companion to Popular Music and Humor. Balensulea was the general editor of The Norton Guide to Teaching Music History and the founding editor of The Journal of Music History Pedagogy.
